WTAMU Named to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll

"West Texas A&M University has been named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) 2018 Transfer Honor Roll.

Known as the most prestigious honor society among community colleges, PTK operates on the mission to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.

“Increasingly, students of all ages and achievement levels are choosing the community college, not only as their first step, but also their first choice in the pursuit of a quality, affordable bachelor’s degree,” Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of PTK, said. “In order to ensure their continued success, the Transfer Honor Roll Program identifies colleges and universities that understand the unique needs of transfer students and applauds the dynamic pathways these colleges have created to continue fostering student success among transfer students at the four-year college.”

The transfer honor roll is awarded to universities with excellence in transfer pathways from two-year to four-year colleges. Application for the prestigious list is open to all regionally accredited baccalaureate degree-granting institutions that complete a submission detailing their community college transfer programs. Candidates are evaluated in the areas of scholarship and financial aid, admissions outreach, student support services and student engagement opportunities.

WTAMU and 112 other institutions, including seven from Texas, were nationally recognized as leaders in higher education for transfer students this year. Officials at PTK believe the honor roll reflects the growing importance of responding to the needs of transfer students because college benefit from the diversity brought to campus by non-traditional and transfer students.

“As talented students choose to start at their local community college in growing numbers, it becomes increasingly important that they think of WT when they are ready to complete their bachelor’s degree,” Dr. Brad Johnson, WTAMU vice president of strategic relations, said. “For WT to be on this Honor Roll is clear evidence that we are an outstanding choice.”

Awarded institutions will be recognized at the organization’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst 2018, in Kansas City April 19-21."
