WT Emergency Management Program Earns Honors

Best Degree Programs has ranked West Texas A&M University’s Emergency Management Administration program at No. 9 in its 2018 list of the 30 best online bachelor’s programs in emergency management.

WTAMU’s emergency management administration (EMA) program was designed by University faculty and administrators to prepare firefighters, police officers, emergency responders, military personnel, private-sector and other emergency service professionals for advanced levels of administration and management in the emergency services professions. The program is offered completely online so students can continue to work full time while earning the degree.

Best Degree Programs reviewed more than 200 colleges and universities from across the country that offer online bachelor’s degrees in emergency management and narrowed the list down to 30. To be considered for the 2018 list, the institution and program had to be accredited and offer at least one emergency management online degree. Schools also were ranked by tuition, affordability and national rankings with publications such as U.S. News and World Report.

WTAMU, ranked at No. 81 in best regional universities in the West by U.S. News and World Report and No. 30 in top public schools, was the only Texas university listed in Best Degree Program’s 2018 rankings. The WTAMU program, ranked at No. 9, was described by Best Degree Programs as one of the best emergency management online degree programs on the list and commended it for its flexible courses that benefit both full-time and part-time students.

According to the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the projected growth for emergency management directors is 8 percent through the year 2026. That growth is based on preparing and minimizing risks due to emergency situation increases, and the need for educated personnel with experience in the field will be in demand.
