Loomis to Take Over as Interim AISD Superintendent

Doug Loomis has been tapped to become the new interim superintendent of the Amarillo Independent School District, effective today.

On Monday, the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees voted 6-0 to appoint Doug Loomis as the interim district superintendent following the abrupt retirement of Dr. Dana West from the role. Under the deal, Loomis, the chief human resources officer for AISD, will step up to serve in the position until a new superintendent can be selected.

Trustees also voted to accept a retirement package and “mutual release” agreement with West, who has served as superintendent since 2015. Under the agreement, West has resigned the superintendent position but will retain employment with the district through January 15, 2019, serving as a “executive liaison for leadership transition,” according to a motion made by trustee Cristy Cooper Wilkinson.

Both agreements were approved unanimously, with six trustees in attendance. Trustee Jim Austin was not in attendance.
