Man Arrested After Attempting to Take Officer's Gun

The Amarillo Police Department has arrested a man after he attempted to take an officer's gun.

The APD reports that two officers were dispatched to the 800 block of North Garfield yesterday on the report of a trespass. Alfonso Orosco, 43, was inside of the fenced area of a business. Orosco gave officers a fake name when they made contact with him. Officers were finally able to identify Orosco and determined that he had a parole warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.

Officers attempted to arrest Orosco and he began fighting with them, eventually grabbing an officer's gun while it was in the holster and attempting to take it.

The officer retained control of his firearm and Orosco broke away. Officers attempted to taze Orosco but it proved ineffective. Officers eventually located Orosco and placed him under arrest for his warrant, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport, Evading arrest or Detention, Attempting to take a Weapon from a Peace Officer, Failure to Identify Fugitive Intent Giving False Information, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
