Jeffrey Payne, of Dallas, is running against Governor Greg Abbott in 2018.
Payne, a Democrat, filed his candidacy on the same day that Governor Abbott announced his bid for re-election. Payne owns five businesses in the Dallas area and is loaning his campaign $2.5 million, according to CBS DFW.
Payne joins Abbott and Republican secessionist Larry SECEDE Kilgore as announced candidates for governor.
Candidates have until December to officially file for a place on the ballot.
