Weston Martinez has signed up to make another go at winning a spot on the Texas Railroad Commission.
Martinez, a former member of the Texas Real Estate Commission, filed on Monday to challenge incumbent Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick in 2018. Craddick, the daughter of former Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland) is running for re-election.
According to information from the Weston Martinez website, Martinez is a conservative political activist and an oil and gas businessman. In addition to serving as an appointed member of the Texas Real Estate Commission, Martinez has served as a State Republican Executive Committeeman.
Martinez is the only Republican candidate signed up to challenge Craddick in 2018. The winner of the Republican primary will face the Democratic nominee in November. Roman McAllen and Chris Spellmon are running for that nomination.
The Republican primary election will take place on March 6th.
