Jim F. Lowder, chairman of the Potter County Republican Party, has resigned to run for District Clerk.
Near the end of the filing deadline on Monday, Lowder announced his resignation as the party's chairperson. Lowder said that his resignation was meant to allow him to begin a campaign for district clerk in Potter County, as the incumbent Caroline Woodburn is not seeking re-election.
Following the announcement of Lowder's resignation, Bill Bandy filed to run for Lowder's spot. Bandy is a local politician who ran for Potter County Judge in 2014, losing to Nancy Tanner. Bandy also served on the steering committee for Councilman Eddy Sauer's 2017 campaign for office.
As of right now, the Potter County Republican Party does not have a chairperson. Officials from the party say a chairperson will be chosen to fulfill the rest of Lowder's term at an upcoming meeting.
UPDATE:
In an email obtained by the Amarillo Pioneer, Cullin Knutson, the secretary for the Potter County Republican Party, says that Lowder has not officially tendered his resignation. A resignation is expected in January, according to the email.
