Head Football Coach Resigns at Amarillo High

Amarillo High School's head football coach, Mel Maxfield, has resigned.

806 High School Sports Connection announced this morning that Maxfield, the long-time head football coach at Amarillo High School, had resigned. The announcement comes as Amarillo High was knocked out of the playoffs earlier this month in a 31-54 loss to Lubbock Monterey.

Following the announcement, KFDA reported that Amarillo High School athletic director Brad Thiessen released a statement calling Maxfield a "man of high character and integrity."

According to MaxPreps.com, Maxfield has served as head football coach at Amarillo High School since 2010.

Maxfield's resignation is the second resignation to occur at Amarillo High School over the past week. Earlier this week, Jan Baker, Amarillo High's volleyball coach, announced her resignation from the school.
