Perry Sits for Hearing

Texas Governor Rick Perry participated in his hearing today, regarding his nomination to become the next U.S. Secretary of Energy.

Perry, who has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the cabinet department, discussed a variety of topics during his hearing. Perry said during his hearing that he would pursue "sound science" on climate change, which led to Senator Bernie Sanders criticizing Perry's answer, on Twitter.

Perry also said that he regretted his call to end the department, during his bid for president in 2012. Perry had famously listed three departments that he wished to eliminate from the federal government, forgetting to name the Department of Energy.

Perry also said that he wished to protect "all of science" from budget cuts in the department, according to the New York Times.

A vote has not yet been scheduled for Perry's confirmation.
