State Gun Could be Decided by Legislature

As KVUE reports, Senator Don Huffines has filed a bill which would name the cannon the official state gun of Texas.

The bill, which was recently filed, promotes designating the cannon as the official gun of the state of Texas. Huffines points to the 1835 Battle of Gonzalez as the inspiration for designating the cannon the official gun of Texas. At the battle, Texian rebels refused to surrender their cannon to Mexican soldiers and declared "Come and Take It!"

If the bill is passed, the cannon will become the first official gun of the state.
