Council to Consider $10 Million Radio System

Amarillo City Council members will be considering purchasing a $10 million radio system, during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Council will consider purchasing a $10 million NEXGEN radio communications system. The system, which was designed by Motorola Solutions, Inc., has been a hot subject recently. Many local residents have begun discussing the need for a new radio system for emergency responders. Supporters of the purchase say that the radio system is a necessity for Amarillo's first responders. Opponents of the radio system's purchase point to the system's price tag.

The City Council will also consider approving the creation of a Local Provider Participation Fund, and will consider approving a 24th Avenue Pump Station Project. There will also be a resolution supporting a highway extension, several rezoning ordinances, and a nuisance public hearing on the agenda.

The Amarillo City Council's meeting will be held on the third floor of City Hall (509 SE 7th Avenue) on Tuesday, December 20th.

The meeting will begin at 5pm.
