John Amason, 83, of Dalhart, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 in Amarillo surrounded by family and friends.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Channing Cemetery with Rodney Weatherly of Wheeler officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.
John was born on February 21, 1935 in Channing, Texas to Luther and Hazel Amason. He graduated from Channing High School. He had been a cowboy most of his life and enjoyed team roping. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dalhart and a former member of the Matador Cowboy Association.
He married Linda Brown on May 22, 1970 in Boise City, Ok.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and three sisters.
John is survived by his wife, Linda Amason of Dalhart; a son, Bobby Amason of Amarillo; a daughter, Donna Medley and husband Macky of Amarillo; brother-in-law, Roy Brown of Dalhart; three grandchildren, M’lissa, Charli, and Mandi; five great grandchildren, Kyla, Kenzie, Keegan, Keeton, and Drake; and one great-great grandchild, Finley Anne.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home and suggests memorials be sent to the Channing Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 204, Channing, Texas 79018.
