Billie J. "Jackie" Simmons Holycross (1924-2018)

Billie J. "Jackie" Simmons Holycross was born December 17, 1924 in Amarillo, Texas to W.T. "Bill" Simmons and Lillian Faye Nollner Simmons.  The middle child of 3, growing up, she lived all over the Panhandle of Texas from Pampa to Dalhart, Canyon, and River Road, finally graduating from White Deer High School. After high school she moved to Amarillo where she met a soldier stationed at the Airbase named Charles Holycross. They married during World War 2 on July 18, 1944. After the war, she and Charles moved to Ohio where they lived for many years farming in Logan County. They moved back to Texas in 1965 and Jackie went to work at the American Quarter Horse Association. She retired from there in 1990 after 25 years of service in the Registration Department. A member of the Baptist Community since high school, she was also a member of Altrusa Club of Amarillo where she served as secretary for 2 years. She was very active with Genealogy and did crochet, knitting, sewing, and quilting for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed oil painting, reading, and traveling.

Jackie passed from this earth on August 6, 2018 at her home in Amarillo. A memorial will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at The Loft Church, Coronado Shopping Center, 2632 SW 34th Ave. at 1:00 PM..

She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Bridges of Amarillo, her son, Charles, Jr., 4 grandchildren, Lana Chandler-Eckiss, Lonnie Bridges, and Loren "Bubba" Bridges, wife Trinity, of Amarillo and Gloria Jean Holycross-Mongold of Springfield, Ohio. 1 nephew, Rick Simmons of Phoenix, Arizona,1 niece, Dulcy Carden of Amarillo, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, 15 Great-grandchildren, GK,  Lawrance, Cameron, Coleman, Josh,  Cody, Jeffery, Daymon, Justin, William, Treveal, Hailey, Jacilynne, Tejay, and Lillyann. 5 Great-great Grandchildren, Leon, Grayson, Maddox, Haylen, and Everleigh.

The family wishes to express a Special Thanks to Clarissa of Hospice of the Southwest,  Nurses, Staff, and Aids for their loving care of Billie for the past 2 years.
