Jerome Maurice O’Rear, III

Jerome Maurice O’Rear III, 69, of Amarillo died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jerome was born and raised in Lubbock, TX and graduated from Monterey High School in 1967. He went on to attend Texas Tech University and received a degree in government. While at Texas Tech University, he was in the marching band and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

He worked in the financial services industry in Amarillo. Jerome was active in the Boy Scout community as both a scout leader and later served as the district leadership for the Llano Estacado Council. Jerome was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo where he served as an usher and as a Sunday school teacher for 6th grade boys for many years. He was a strong man of faith who loved his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. J.M. and Dorothy O’Rear; and a son, Gregory Jerome O’Rear.

He is survived by former wife, Jayne Riker; daughters, Allison and her husband Ben Colaw and Jennifer and her husband Sage Woolf; a son, Mark and his wife Lydia; and his grandchildren, Peyton, Grady, Vivienne, Saylor, Oliver, Emma, Quincy and Jude.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler, Amarillo, TX; or to Golden Spread Council Boy Scouts of America, 401 Tascosa Rd., Amarillo, TX.
