Amarillo Police are reporting 283 citations were issued for alleged seatbelt law violations during the most recent Click It or Ticket campaign.
According to APD, during the campaign from May 20th through June 2nd, officers handed out 283 seatbelt citations, 2 child restraint citations, 49 speeding citations, 18 Distracted Driving citations, and 307 warnings or citations were issued for “other violations.” Five municipal level arrests, one county court charge level arrest, and twenty-one warrants were served during the campaign.
The extra enforcement during this time was funded thanks to a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. Strict enforcement will continue, however, as APD currently has a comprehensive traffic grant from the Texas Department of Transportation that funds extra officers to focus on enforcement.
