Amarillo Resident Files Lawsuit Against City

Amarillo resident Rusty Donelson filed a lawsuit against the City of Amarillo last week on behalf of those at the Christ Church Camp of New Beginnings.

In a lawsuit filed in federal court last week, Donelson says that the City of Amarillo is depriving those at the Christ Church Camp of New Beginnings of their rights by attempting force the residents from the camp. Donelson also says in the lawsuit that the City of Amarillo is withholding names of "secret investors" in the downtown revitalization projects.

Donelson told the Amarillo Pioneer that he chose to file the lawsuit, because he believes that City of Amarillo officials have forgotten that they are accountable under federal law.

"I think it's past time that the City of Amarillo realizes that there is a federal court building in Amarillo and we know where the front door is," Donelson said.

Donelson is demanding that the City of Amarillo cease all legal proceedings against the Christ Church Camp of New Beginnings, take steps to establish a low-barrier municipal shelter for area homeless and identify investors in the downtown catalyst projects.

The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas on February 27th.
