The Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit is investigating an assault that has been ruled a homicide.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 7800 block of Cervin on the report of a physical fight on July 30th. When officers arrived, they found that the 53 year old resident of the home had been injured. He was inside of the garage area, unconscious. Officers could see signs of injuries and he was taken to the hospital.
Officers interviewed other adults who had been inside of the home at the time of the altercation.
Special Crimes took over the investigation on August 8th and the injured man, Joseph Guzman, was pronounced dead. Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn has ordered an autopsy.
